Benny Beynon [Click to enlarge image]Benny Beynon

Position: Midfield/Striker
Born: 1March 1894, Swansea
Played for Swansea Town: 1912-1922
Football League appearances: 25 (+ 26 in 4th Southern League)
Appearances for Wales: None at football, but 2 Welsh caps for rugby!
Fact: Played as an amateur in the Southern League, so he could also play for Swansea RFC. Famously scored the winning goal against Blackburn Rovers in the 1915 FA Cup.

Position: Striker
Born: 1888, England
Played for Swansea Town: 1912-1920
Football League appearances: None, 57 in Southern League, 27 goals
Fact: Billy scored the first professional goal for the Swans, the first hat-trick, and was the first player to be sent off .


Cyril Pearce [Click to enlarge image]Cyril Pearce

Position: Striker
Born: 28th January 1908, Shirebrook
Played for Swansea Town: 1931-1932, 1937-1938
Football League appearances: 55, 43 goals
Fact: Cyril scored 35 League goals in 1931-32, still the highest season’s total for a Swansea player.

Position: Mid eld, striker
Born: 6th October 1940, Swansea
Played for Swansea Town: 1958-1975
Football League appearances: 513, 104 goals
Appearances for Wales: 3, 1964-1971
Fact: Herbie played in the Swansea Schoolboys team who won the English Schools Shield in 1955.


Joe Sykes [Click to enlarge image]Joe Sykes

Position: Midfield
Born: 8th January 1898
Played for Swansea Town: 1924-1935
Football League appearances: 314, 7 goals
Fact: Joe was still working for the Swans in the late 1960s as caretaker manager – as a scout he discovered local talent including Ivor Allchurch.


Lee Trundle [Click to enlarge image]Lee Trundle

Position: Striker
Born: 10th October 1976, Liverpool
Played for Swansea Town: 2003-2007, 2009-2010 (on loan)
Football League appearances: 166, 83 goals
Fact: Lee was top scorer for the Swans for 4 successive seasons, before being sold for £1,000,000.


Mel Nurse [Click to enlarge image]Mel Nurse

Position: Defender/midfielder
Born: 11th October 1937, Swansea
Played for Swansea Town: 1947-1958, 1965-1968.
Football League appearances: 257
Appearances for Wales: 12, 1960-1961
Fact: ‘Mr. Swansea’ Mel put his money where his heart is, and saved the Swans on more than one occasion. It was his consortium which rescued the club in 2001/2002 from Tony Petty’s ownership.


Roger Freestone [Click to enlarge image]Roger Freestone

Position: Goalkeeper
Born: 19th August 1968, Caerleon
Played for Swansea Town: 1989, 1991-2004
Football League appearances: 563
Appearances for Wales: 1, in 2000 against Brazil
Fact: Roger has played more times for Swansea in all competitions than any other player.
