Free Easter Activities at Swansea Museum!

Prehistoric Sculpture Workshop for Adults: Saturday 2 April, 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm

Study Palaeolithic and Neolithic art with Michelle Dawson. You will be introduced to some pre-historic artefacts, decorative techniques and the ancient use of red ochre pigment. Then respond by creating your own sculpture. You can experiment using air drying clay or try carving into thermalite blocks.


The Red Baron: Sunday 3 April, 1.30pm

Join our special screening of the classic film plotting the remarkable tale of the infamous German fighter pilot, Manfred von Richtofen, who served with the Imperial German Army Air Service during the First World War.


Family Egyptology Day: Saturday 9 April

Explore the world of ancient Egypt through our special Egyptology Day, featuring workshops on calligraphy, hieroglyphics, amulets and shabtis. Something for everyone!


Stained Glass Art Workshop: Sunday 10th April, 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm

Free art workshop with a local stained glass artist Huda Awad – suitable for beginners.


Swansea Water Collected

Museum of Water CwmdonkinIt’s great to have our first Swansea donation for the Museum of Water. It’s a sample of water from the drinking fountain at Cwmdonkin Park, as mentioned in Dylan Thomas’ poem The Hunchback in the Park.  It was donated by Mark Thomas of Uplands, a lifelong Dylan Thomas fan.

Looking for Summer Holiday ideas?

summer holiday workshopsIf you’re stuck things to do with the kids over the Summer Holidays we’ve got loads of arts and crafts workshops on offer. We will have a different workshop every Thursday of the Summer break from 11am until 2pm. Workshops include mono-printing, puppet making and origami.



Each workshop is suitable for a wide range of ages and run by an experienced tutor.

LOCWS Art Across the City Craft Workshops

Art WorkshopsGet inspired by Art Across the City and re-invent Swansea as a much more colourful place!

Young visitors have the chance to join the team from LOCWS International to dream up their own version of ‘Future Swansea’ and design and create their own buildings with the help of experienced staff.

Both workshops are completely FREE and all materials are provided.

No booking is required so just drop in.

‘Future Swansea’ – Half term workshops

Half Term WorkshopsCheck out these pictures of our Easter Holiday activities over the past two weeks. Visitors have created figures and coasters from air dry clay inspired by our Ewenny Pottery exhibition and built their version of ‘future Swansea’, as well as taking part in story telling sessions and games.

Easter fun day at the museum

Children at the Easter fun day.We had a great time on Saturday hosting an Easter Fun Day with Time to Change Wales. The day was aimed at raising awareness of mental health discrimination through family friendly activities – ‘Beating Stigma the Fun Day’. The busy day included face painting, an Easter egg hunt, a disco and a bouncy castle.


We have lots of other activities planned over the Easter Holidays including a special Easter trail available daily, a Pottery Workshop with artist Ruth McLees (2 & 9 April) and Craft Workshops inspired by the LOCWS International Art Across the City public art programme (3 & 10 April). All of these activities are completely free and all materials are provided.

Family Fun day: Beating Stigma the Fun Way

Family Fun DayPeople Working with People and Time to Change Wales have organised a free family fun day at the Museum on Saturday (23 March), hosted by Lee King and Jess G from Radio Tircoed.

Taking place from 11am – 4pm there will be a whole day of entertainment and children’s activities including an Easter egg hunt, face painting, a bouncy castle and a disco.  Refreshments will be available.

Over the Easter holidays the Museum will also be hosting a number of free workshops including a Pottery Workshop with artist Ruth McLees (2 & 9 April) and Craft Workshops inspired by the LOCWS International Art Across the City public art programme (3 & 10 April).

Half Term ‘Your Treasures’ Craft Workshop


Come down to Swansea Museum this Thursday for a treasure themed drop in craft workshop!

Join artist Ruth McLees to make your own wire work and beaded goodies inspired by our newly displayed treasure case. Smaller visitors will enjoy getting messy with glitter and glue to create their own sparkly treasure pictures to take home.

The workshop is FREE and all materials are provided.

Swans100 Event this Saturday

swans100Come down to Swansea Museum for a day of Swans themed craft this Saturday.

The whole family will enjoy the chance to make their own football rosette. The fun continues at the National Waterfront Museum where you can hear a choir singing football chants at 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
