Chronometer

Chronometer

In order to calculate longitude on the earth’s surface it is necessary to have exact Greenwich Mean Time available.

This chronometer or ship’s clock, made by B. R. Hennessy of Swansea, is a very accurate spring drive clock.

Modern quartz movements have made clocks like this obsolete.

This item is located at Swansea Museum Collections Centre at Landore in the Museum Stores
